As the 2025 year comes to a close, Cate students have made many memories over the past four months. From seeing old and new faces at the line dance to sharing laughs and screams of fright during the haunted house, there is much to reflect upon from these last few months.

Year after year, there are certain staple activities eagerly anticipated. For example, the Cate tradition of hosting a line dance as the very first activity of the year allows incoming freshmen to socialize and create lasting memories on their first day at Cate. Homecoming is another notable event, kicking off with a volleyball and football game, followed by photo opportunities on Senior Lawn, and concluding with dancing in Upper Booth. There are also new activities this year, including the dorm open houses. This year, the first dorm to host was Cook House East, where Schoolhouse emerged victorious after a series of fun games. To top it all off, the prize was a delicious treat made by the one and only CHE head dorm parent, Cece Schwennsen.

Evan Walters ‘28, a Cate student, commented on one of the new activities implemented this year, stating, “The trampoline park was probably my favorite activity of the year. It was a new experience as there wasn’t that opportunity last year, but I made so many memories dancing in glow-in-the-dark shirts on a Friday night.”

Behind the scenes of everyday Cate life, the Activities Committee diligently works to provide the weekend activities the Cate students know and love. The committee convenes to discuss themes such as Homecoming and Spirit Week, the events themselves, and also the best way to connect with other leadership groups in the community. During the fall trimester, each grade level was responsible for organizing an activity: the sophomores hosted the Fall Fair, the juniors hosted the Halloween dance, and the seniors hosted the haunted house. Partnering up with Senate, each member of the activities committee meticulously planned the events weeks in advance.

Riya Mitera ‘28, a sophomore member of the committee, stated, “It was great partnering up with the senate, as the perspective from multiple student leaders in our grade was perfect to create a fun fall fair for the school. It was definitely a big responsibility, but in the end, the experience of planning and organizing the fall fair was worthwhile.” The process was similar for the other grade events as well, with junior and senior senators partnering with their respective activities representatives to host their events.

With Holi, Winter Formal, and many more activities ahead in 2026, the Cate community anticipates making memories after this restful break.
