With sports serving as the focus of many memories on campus, Blue Crew has served as the driving force of spirit and energy at Cate School. Next year, that energy will be placed in the hands of Lauren Hubbs ’26, who will become Blue Crew head. She brings not only a clear vision for the program, but also a deep love for the Cate community.

Leadership journeys can look different for everyone, but for Lauren Hubbs ’26, hers began with a simple phone call.“Last year, it was almost like I was being handed a position,” she remembers. “Sam and TJ (the current heads) were looking to expand the program and picked me and Barron.” A long-time sports fan, Lauren seized the opportunity and said, “My favorite thing about Cate is going to sports games. A lot of public schools have tailgates and these big game-day events. We’re just trying to bring that to Cate – give people that experience they might miss out on.”

Looking ahead to next year, Lauren is focused on making Blue Crew more inclusive and organized. “Being a head or some sort of a specific personality is not needed to attend games or help with event execution,” she explains. “We intend to craft an event that is simple to organize, like tailgates, where other groups, such as dance or music, are included. It is our hope that everything is more cohesive.”

In terms of how Lauren herself views bringing the energy, she strongly feels that doing so comes from a personal connection. “Things like making announcements, running through the dorms, and a lot of other things are done in an attempt to build relationships and bonds,” she explains. “Simply going forward to someone and saying, ‘Hey, you should come to the game’ goes a long way if it is done in a sincere manner.”

When asked what her most memorable Blue Crew moment has been so far, she bursts into laughter. “I’ve been the Ram a few times—that was fun, but super hot. I almost passed out! A lot of things have been amazing, like the basketball and volleyball games. Just being a part of it all, it’s great.”

As for those wishing to potentially guide Blue Crew in the future? Lauren's answer is straightforward: chase that dream. "You don’t have to be super enthusiastic. There are many ways to be a Blue Crew head. It doesn’t matter if you’re a mild-mannered mouse working behind the curtain or the exuberant cheerleader in the room; all that matters is that you show up. There is no embarrassment if you’re all in – everyone enjoys it.”

With Lauren at the helm, the future of Blue Crew looks shaped by a clear vision for inclusivity and energy, one rooted in community connection and thoughtful leadership.
